How to Install Your New A1466 / A1496 A1405 Battery

Replacing the battery in a MacBook Air 13″ is a Beginner-Friendly repair. It typically takes less than 15 minutes.

⚠️ Crucial Safety Preparation

• Discharge First: For safety, discharge your old battery below 25% before starting.
• Required Tools: You will need a P5 Pentalobe screwdriver (for the bottom case) and a T5 Torx screwdriver (for the 5 internal battery screws).

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

1. Remove the Bottom Case:
   Flip your MacBook Air over. Use the P5 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the 10 screws. Note that the two screws near the hinge are longer. Lift off the back cover.

2. Disconnect the Battery:
   Locate the battery connector. Use the clear plastic tab on the connector to pull it straight toward the front of the laptop. Do not lift it upward.

3. Remove the Battery Screws:
   Use the T5 Torx screwdriver to remove the 5 screws securing the battery. Keep track of the middle screw, as it is shorter than the others.

4. Swap in the New Battery:
   Lift the old battery out. Place the new A1496 battery into the bay.
   Pro Tip: Align the battery connector and plug it in before you tighten the 5 internal screws to ensure perfect alignment.

5. Secure and Close:
   Reinstall the 5 T5 screws. Replace the bottom case and secure the 10 P5 screws.

6. Calibration:
   After installation, charge the battery to 100%. Keep it charging for 2 hours, then use the laptop until it reaches 5%. Finally, charge it to 100% uninterrupted.

The A1496 battery is a perfect upgrade and replacement for the A1466 laptop, but it is not compatible with the 11-inch A1465 model (the 11-inch model uses the A1495 battery).

1. New Battery: For using a new battery, it’s best to try a few cycles of discharging to 5%. then charging up to 95%. So that it can be activated completely
2. Overuse: Do not always run out of a battery to 0%, this would make it or usage life.
3. Charging sequence: When charging, first install the battery, then turn on the power. When fully charged, first cut off the power, then pull the power plug.
